According to the mainstream medical community, the lethal dose of fluoride for adults is 5-10 grams.

High fluoride levels negatively affect a person’s cognitive abilities.

In relation to acute toxicity, fluoride is more toxic than lead. This is why fluoride has long been used in pesticides to kill rodents and insects. An important factor to note is that the slower the water passes through the media inside the cartridge, the more contamination or fluoride will be removed. For this reason, we recommend Reverse Osmosis. This is the best way to remove fluoride from the water. And it's the safest option for maximum contaminant removal, not just the fluoride.

IIf you don't have a fluoride removal water filter yet, or you want to upgrade your current water filter system, then your options are:

A benchtop gravity system.

Benchtop gravity filters are a great option to remove fluoride. We have ceramic gravity water filters that use the Ultraceram fluoride removal cartridge in the top tank. The filtration rate for these is generally around one litre per hour. So the water has a very good contact time with the cartridge, and the test results show how well these gravity cartridges work, removing almost all of the fluoride!

Filteroo Fluoride Filter

We recommend the Filteroo because they have the effective Ultraceram as their fluoride removal option.

Berkey Fluoride Filter

Alternatively, there’s also the Berkey range, which have a PF2 fluoride removal cartridge that screws up onto the bottom of the top cartridge and hangs down into the bottom tank.

A reverse osmosis system.

Reverse Osmosis systems come in both benchtop and under sink models.

We recommend the RO-4000 range in the benchtops, the Aquasana RO system for under the sink because it comes with NSF certification test results or any of the HPF RO systems.

A classic twin or triple-stage water filter with a dedicated fluoride removal cartridge.

The Ultrapure Twin and Ultrapure Triple are classic water filters that use the dedicated fluoride removal cartridge.

We highly recommend the Ultrapure brand. They have the same great Omnipure fluoride removal cartridge but also have the incredible Aragon cartridge.

If you filter your water with a fridge, the easiest way to upgrade your fridge filter to remove fluoride, is with an inline fluoride removal filter cartridge. This inline fluoride removal cartridge has a flow rate of 1.9 litres per minute.

Is Removing Fluoride Necessary?

There are studies available showing that Fluoridated water is causing higher and higher amounts of damage to our bodies - more than we probably realise.

Recent studies suggest that water fluoridation in England is linked to a 30 per cent increase in underactive thyroid diagnosis. The thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate how well every cell, tissue, and organ in the body functions.

Fluoridated Water Lowers IQ

New data suggests fluoridated water could even lead to brain damage and lower IQs in kids.

As of February 2021, a total of 76 studies have investigated the relationship between fluoride and human intelligence. Of these investigations, 68 studies have found that elevated fluoride exposure is associated with reduced IQ in humans.

Fluoridated Water Can Cause Fluorosis

Prolonged, excessive exposure to fluoride can cause a debilitating bone disease known as skeletal fluorosis. Fluorosis in children can cause IQ impairment.

Sure, taking fluoride has some benefits for dental health but in the 21st century, can we still cling to that age-old argument and turn a blind eye to all of the drawbacks?

What is the best fluoride water filter?

In our experience, the best dedicated fluoride removal cartridge we’ve found, is manufactured in the USA by the Omnipure Company. The cartridge has been tested many times, even by some of our customers, and it removes up to 97% of fluoride.

Again, the slower the water passes through these cartridges, the more fluoride that will be removed. These nine-inch or 10-inch fluoride removal cartridges are rated around 2.5 liters per minute flow rate.

Just select the right size and you're good to go.

How much does it cost to install a fluoride removal water filter?

The cost will depend on several factors, including the size of your family, and the level of filtration you desire.

You can get a good quality HPF reverse osmosis water filter at a reasonable price. This will cost about $180 to $200 to get installed as long as you don’t have a marble benchtop to drill through.

If you want to get the best system, we recommend the Aquasana RO or the HPF 7 Stage.

If reverse osmosis is out of your budget we recommend the Ultrapure Fluoride removal systems as a great option at a more affordable price. A classic undersink system will cost around $160 to install from any competent plumber.

For families of up to four people, this system is perfect for removing fluoride and other contaminants like sediment, chlorine, chemicals, and odours.

Do fluoride removal filters work?

Yes! We know that fluoride isn’t easy to remove from water and requires a different method to remove it than chlorine. So we've scoured the world and sourced only the products that actually work at removing fluoride.
