Because of this, there are limits to how fine the filtration can be.
A reverse osmosis system works differently:
- Flow rate: 200ml per minute
- Focus: precision filtration down to 0.0005 micron
This allows it to remove contaminants that are too small to be captured by whole house systems.
We often describe it as: “Anything small enough to pass through your whole house filter - this system removes.”
And don’t worry about flow speed - the included storage tank allows you to fill a 1L bottle in around 20 seconds.
But Other Companies Say Their Whole Of House Filter Can Remove Fluoride
And You Don’t Need an RO?
We’ve had this question more and more - so here’s the honest answer.
Fluoride filtration technology works effectively only at low flow rates.
Typical fluoride filters:
- Operate at 2.8L per minute
- Last around 2,000 litres
When scaled up for whole house systems:
- Capacity increases slightly (10,000 - 20,000 litres at best)
- But average household usage is 80,000 - 100,000 litres per year
The numbers simply don’t add up.
While the concept is appealing, the chemistry doesn’t support it at the whole house scale.
