In this article, you will learn how to change the cartridge in your Whole House Triple Water Filter, without breaking it accidentally.
In this video, we show you how to avoid damaging your large water filter cartridges during installation. By ensuring that the cartridge is held vertically and aligned properly with the central stem in the housing, you can prevent costly mistakes like damaging the cartridge. With a bit of grease on the threads, the cartridge should screw on easily by hand, without the need for excessive force or tools. It's a simple process that guarantees a good seal and smooth operation—saving you time and money.
It does happen from time to time, and it’s just about taking extra care when changing your cartridges and knowing what to look out for.
The issue we are trying to avoid is a hole in the top of the cartridge. This can occur if you have the cartridge on an angle when screwing it up, and the stump in the housing holder pushes straight through the bottom.
There is a stem inside the opening of the water filter, which centralises the cartridge. When you’re changing that cartridge, you need to make sure you get the cartridge to fit over the stem.

How To Change The Cartridge Correctly
- Hold your housing vertically, and slide the cartridge in and feel it sit onto that lug on the bottom.
- Then you keep the cartridge upright, straight up and down, as you're going to install it.
- On the inside of the cap, notice there are fingers that hold the cartridge in position as you screw it up.
- Slide the cartridge directly up and into the filter, and gently screw it up by hand.
Caution: If it’s not screwing up easily, something isn’t right. If this happens, stop and unscrew it completely to start over again.
It always helps to have a little grease around the thread to ensure that it screws on very easily.
